The division serves as a center for short- and medium-term interdisciplinary research projects around legal issues in Zambia and the wider region. The goal is to provide practical, evidence-based policy recommendations. This flexible, project-specific work is done in conjunction with regional and international collaborators/partners.
The division also provides technical assistance to cooperating partners. Most recently, the division led a Public Expenditure and Institutional Review (PEIR) of the Zambian judiciary on behalf of the World Bank. The focus of the PEIR was a supply-side investigation of justice service delivery in Zambia. A follow-up assignment entitled: Assessment of Access to Justice and Alternative Dispute Resolution Systems in Zambia has also been completed.
